The People & Planet Green League will be published next Tuesday 29 May in The Guardian. It is the only comprehensive and independent league table of UK universities ranked by environmental and ethical performance.
Universities care where they come in it because it has big reputational risks, and for students, it’s a great way to find out where your university can improve and a useful lobbying tool.
Shout about the results
To highlight the importance of universities going greener, students across the country are planning a range of stunts to either celebrate their institution’s success, or highlight improvements that are still needed.
- York University students are planning to hold a fete with food, music and more.
- East Anglia People & Planet are planning to do a banner drop
- Manchester Metropolitan University, who did well last year, will be holding a celebratory event linked to an allotment project on campus.
- Other groups planning actions include Birmingham, Leeds, Kent, Reading and Aberdeen University.
Other groups are planning to put their university in the spotlight by sending press releases to student and local media. Students up and down the country are preparing for a grassroots media storm on Twitter and facebook.
