Step 3: Change the highstreet
Unlike others, Asda don’t sell ANY Fairtrade cotton school uniforms, even though they have said that they ‘promote Fairtrade’ because they want to ‘do the right thing’. We think this needs to change if Asda want young people and their to keep buying from them.
There are two great things your school can do to change the highstreet…
Let Asda know what your school demands
If your governors are supportive and agree to stock Fairtrade cotton clothing for the school you can also ask them to support our campaign to change the high street.
Schools around the country will be writing to Asda asking them to stock Fairtrade cotton school clothing. Get your governors to sign this letter to put pressure on Asda. The letter calls on Asda to join the other supermarkets and sell Fairtrade cotton uniforms, which are ethically sourced, therefore ensuring that its uniforms are not produced by children who are denied an education of their own.
Along with your ‘shout outs’ this will be really important in persuading them to clean up their act and stock Fairtrade cotton school clothes.
Shout out for Fairtrade
