Think about standing for the Management Committee
People & Planet is a student-led campaigning organisation and we have a passionate commitment to democracy as part of our vision for a just world. Our grassroots network of student groups choose all our campaigns and decide on the direction they will take.
In addition to this, students can get involved in running the organisation as a whole by supporting other student groups, helping us to organise events and participating in discussions on the development and direction of the organisation as a whole.
Fundraising
Network fundraising is a key factor in our democracy. We can only develop and respond to the ideas of the network if we have the financial resources available to do so. Money received from grants given by other charities and NGOs, the government or companies often has restrictions attached, so the more money we can raise from our network, the greater financial independence we will have to respond to their demands.
Get Involved
We passionately believe that everyone who campaigns with us should get involved in making these decisions, and that it should be fun and easy to do so! This applies equally to both our sixth form and university members.
In this section you can read all about how our democracy works and how to get involved.
You can learn about our yearly democratic event, [The Forum] (/forum) and how you can be involved.
The Management Committee
At the Forum students are elected to the Management Committee. The MC is 50% or over students and it oversees all the work of P&P. It approves the budgets, hires the director and makes sure the staff are working on the best projects to support your campaigning.
Anyone can stand for the Management Committee, as long as they are registered as a student at the time of election.
It is a massively exciting opportunity and you will be at the heart of one of the UK’s leading NGOs. Have a read of how they work and ask them a question.
