“People & Planet is a wonderful organisation - full of passion, commitment and enthusiasm - qualities that have come through in the work that we have done with People & Planet both as a funder and a collaborator on policy work. You often meet people and find that their first connection with campaigning work was as a member of a People & Planet or formerly a Third World First group. That is the organisation’s ultimate legacy; generations of people who are shamed by the problems that diminish our society and who say to themselves ‘this is unacceptable and I can do something about it.”

Matthew Smerdon, Baring Foundation

Join the fund-raising team that enables our award-winning campaigns on poverty, human rights and the environment.

This is a new post that will focus on developing our portfolio of trusts and foundations and also develop our other fund-raising projects including individual giving.

We have found that fund-raising is made more effective by staff having a close involvement with our front-line activities (campaigning, active global citizenship work, events and network-support). This also fosters a positive attitude towards fund-raising throughout the organisation. As well as taking on grant writing and relationship development responsibilities, this post will also offer mentoring support to other staff who take on particular fund-raising relationships and responsibilities.

We’re looking for an excellent communicator with experience in persuasive writing and relationship development who is a supportive team member, motivated by social and environmental justice issues.

People & Planet aims to inspire and support the next generation of active global citizens. It is vital that we seek to engage diverse students from across the UK population with global social and environmental issues.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in developing a new project to work with Further Education colleges and Higher Education institutions where People & Planet is not currently working. You will develop new ways to increase students’ awareness of global development issues and encourage active global citizenship.

We are looking for an excellent communicator and facilitator, who is able to inspire and engage a diverse range of young people. You will also need the drive and strong organisational skills to ensure the project achieves its goals.

You will manage the project and play a key role in its delivery, including building partnerships with staff and a diverse group of students at colleges and universities and involving them in the design and evaluation of the project. You will carry out training and organise innovative and engaging activities in institutions around global development issues. You will work with partners and an advisory group to ensure the ongoing evaluation of the approaches you trial and to share the findings of the project.

“My year as an intern at P&P was a hugely important part of my development as a campaigner. I arrived with passion and commitment, but with campaigning experience largely limited to small, and often non-strategic student campaigning groups. I left with a whole range of skills in the areas of project management, training and facilitation, campaign planning.”

David Babbs, ex-intern, now Head of Capacity Building, Friends of the Earth

People & Planet is offering 8 year-long paid Internships to start in August 2008.

Our Internships are respected throughout the NGO and charity sectors as a great way to gain the skills and experience you need for a career in charity work or campaigning.

During the year-long Internship you will learn what makes campaigning and youth organisations work. Through experience, intensive training and ongoing support you will develop your skills, including time and project management, public speaking, facilitation, training, writing, campaign group support, events and campaign action organisation, IT and skills specific to the role you take on.

You will be working for one of the leading grassroots campaign organisations in the UK, supporting a truly amazing network of students. In recent years P&P Interns have gone on to work for: Action Aid, Christian Aid, CAFOD, Comic Relief, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, Rising Tide, the Samaritans, VSO, YWCA, and for People & Planet itself among many others.
