Coming up…
We’ll be providing support for teachers to engage in the debate with students in schools and colleges.
The debate series is a great way to get new people engaged with People & Planet groups around the country. We’ll help you do so.
At Shared Planet 07, there’ll be workshops around the debate to help you make the most of it and get involved in your groups.
Get in touch for more information on any of these oppportunities.
“Why should I bother cutting my emissions if China isn’t?”
Heard this line before? Interested in finding out about the real challenges in tackling climate change globally? Want to engage in debate with Chinese young people?
People & Planet have joined forces with China Dialogue to get P&Pers and other young people in the UK and beyond in touch with our peers in China. The ‘Cooler Living’ project, a web forum in which all comments are translated from Chinese to English and vice versa, is a unique opportunity to learn from others across the globe and engage in debate to build grassroots international climate change solutions.
How can I get involved?
Write an article to spark the debate. Your article will be paired with one on the same topic by Chinese students. Let us know if you’d like to write for us!
Promote the debate - the debate is open to all young people in the UK and overseas. Link to this page in emails to your People & Planet group, your friends and your school, college or uni. Let us know if you want flyers to use in your group, at events ot at your school, college or uni.
Join the debate - The debate was launched in early June. Check it out and get involved!
Check out China Dialogue’s wide range of articles and comment.
Upcoming Debate Topics
Articles written by People & Planet students will be paired with articles written by Chinese students. These will aim to spark debate on the following topics:
- Why should I care if China doesn’t?
- Does sustainable consumption mean less consumption?
- Should each person make their personal emissions public?
- What would I give up for the planet? What won’t I give up?
- What role should government have in shaping our consumption habits?
- What role should business have in shaping our consumption habits?
- Do we make our own choices? What is the role of individual consumer choice?
- “But I want it…it’s cool.”
- Is off-setting emissions a good idea?
- How will my consumption be different from my parents when I am 40?
Get in touch if you would like to write a piece on one of these topics.
