‘Fueling the Future’ explains how funding fossil fuel extraction contributes to climate change, has a negative impact on development, and undermines attempts to promote renewable energy. The report recommends that the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) should address the current incoherence in its approach to climate change by producing a new energy and climate change strategy.

P&P students discuss campaign options at P&P´s G8 Summer Festival 2005.
The People & Planet network chose the issue of investment in fossil fuel projects as the focus for our new climate change campaign. The decision was made at P&P´s G8 Summer Festival in 2005, when students chose this campaign from three options.
At the People & Planet Summer Gathering in 2006, an intense and creative session resulted in the choice of the name: Ditch Dirty Development.
