When Santa Came to Town..

Edinburgh students join actions against Topshop's unethical fashion throughout Britain - Ruth Cape, Edinburgh Uni student reports

edinburgh topshop christmas

Old Saint Nick himself stopped into Edinburgh’s Topshop last Thursday evening to show his personal displeasure with the high street store. With a sack full of edible ‘Living Wages’, he ho-ho-ho-ed his way into the shop (he couldn’t find a chimney so had to opt for the more conventional method of access) and did what he does best; giving out chocolate coins to the late night shoppers and encouraging them to express their own concerns about the conditions in which the clothes they were picking off the shelves were made.

Outside, Santa’s little helpers were bracing the cold with saxophone and accordion accompanied (re-worded) carol singing… with the festive tunes cheering up the crispy cold of a winter evening, many laden shoppers were attracted over to sign a Christmas card to Topshop, expressing their Christmas wish this year for Topshop to join the ETI. This will be winging its way over to Philip Green, and he better watch out… I think I spotted a lump of coal in Santa’s sack with his name on it…
