DEA is an education charity that promotes global learning.
Our national network of member organisations and supporters share our conviction that the role of education today is crucial in shaping a better tomorrow.
For learners and society to thrive in a world which faces issues such as global poverty, climate change and racial and religious tensions, DEA believes that education should put learning in a global context, fostering:
- critical and creative thinking;
- self-awareness and open-mindedness towards difference;
- understanding of global issues and power relationships; and
- optimism and action for a better world.
We work in the UK to change both what people learn and how they learn, through influencing policy and improving educators' practice. Our primary focus is on schools and teacher training including a resource website for teachers, and global youth work.
In 2008 DEA launched Global Matters, a prospectus featuring case studies of global learning from schools and communities across the country, with a foreword and endorsement from the Prime Minister. We published groundbreaking new research by Ipsos MORI, and produced Highlights of DEA which gives a broad overview of our work over the past year.
