MORE WOMEN MORE POWER
Women make up half the world's population but only a fifth of the world's decision-makers.
In the British Parliament, less than 20% are women, putting the UK in 59th place among other parliaments in the world in terms of the proportion of women members. Around the world, women tend to be the poorest and most powerless citizens.
In October, One World Action launched the More Women More Power Campaign at the House of Commons (listen to the inspiring speeches at the launch by clicking here). On November 25, the campaign was also launched at the London City Hall. We are calling for radical measures to enable women to occupy 50 per cent or more of seats in parliaments and elected bodies in the UK and globally. We are campaigning for more British aid to be allocated for the promotion of women's political participation in developing countries. We believe that pushing for women’s greater representation and participation in politics will help end centuries of discrimination and is essential in the fight against poverty worldwide.
