Get your headteacher, principal or students’ union to make a real commitment to Fairtrade
By writing and adopting a Fairtrade College or School policy and being one step closer to Fairtrade Status.

- Have a look at our advice on how to write a Fairtrade policy and put together a draft with your group.
- Hold some stalls and events in Fairtrade Fortnight to raise the profile of Fairtrade in your school or college. Why not make them fundraisers for People & Planet?
- Why not collect a petition to show your headteacher, principal or students union officials how much support there is for going for Fairtrade status?
- Arrange to meet with them to tell them about the scheme and show them a draft copy of the policy.
- If they are supportive, why not make a photo opportunity out of it? Make sure you put an article in your school newsletter and student press and also send a press release to your local news papers too.
Picture the scene: a photo of your headteacher, principal or student president embracing a Fairtrade product and adding your institution’s voice to the calls to bring an end to world poverty, in your local newspaper!
Raise awareness in your school or college and be another step closer There are loads of ways that you can raise awareness about Fairtrade:
- You can book us to come and run one of our Fairtrade workshops at your college or to Sixth Formers at your school.
- You could run a workshop or an assembly yourself with these helpful resources.
- You can order loads of free promotional stuff including stickers, posters and bunting from the Fairtrade Foundation.
