We expect you to:
- Turn up on site on time and attend the training.
- Turn up for shifts on time, and in a fit state to undertake your responsibilities.
- Not drink or smoke while on duty.
- Be polite to the public and remember that you are representing People & Planet.
- Be committed to the safety and welfare of the general public
- Act within the remit of your role as a bar worker or steward. You will not be doing any security work, crowd control, expulsions, searches etc.
Deposit
Deposit amounts are linked to festival ticket prices. We take deposits to ensure that volunteers turn up to festivals and complete their training and shift requirements. Once you have paid your deposit your place is not secured until you receive confirmation. If we are unable to confirm your place we will refund you in full. Cancelling your place after the final cancellation date (see below for dates) will incur loosing your entire deposit. If you apply for multiple festivals this applies to each of the festivals you apply for. If you cancel on or before the final cancellation date your deposit will be refunded minus a £20 administration fee.
We will repay your deposit in full within 20 working days of the last festival that you work at (we’ll try to do it sooner than this), assuming you have fulfilled all of your duties as a steward or bar worker satisfactorily.
Your deposit held by People & Planet is for all the festivals that we are recruiting for; you do not need to pay a separate deposit for each festival. The amount you pay is set by the most expensive festival you have selected. Certain events may require a separate deposit from you (i.e. The Big Chill). People & Planet are not responsible for any deposit given direct to a festival.
You will need to pay the deposit using a credit or debit card on our secure web payment pages.
Refunds will be made to the same card. If the card has since expired we will refund by cheque, and will contact you first to confirm the details.
If you attend a festival but do not turn up to one or more shifts, arrive for shift more than 30 minutes late, fail to attend training or are drunk or otherwise incapable of completing your shift we will dock a quarter off your deposit for each shift or training you have not worked. If you arrive up to 30 minutes late for a shift we will dock £20 from your deposit. Team leaders managing you at the festival will record any incidents for which we may need to dock your deposit. If you dispute their decision you will be required to submit, in writing, your case for getting your full deposit refunded, stating as much detail as possible about your attendance on shift, timings and duties completed. If we need to dock your deposit for the first festival you work you will need to top up your deposit in order to work subsequent festivals.
Cancellations
If you decide you do not want to work a festival, you must give us one month’s notice to cancel your place. If you cancel on or before the final cancellation date you will get your deposit back minus a £20 administration fee to cover the costs and staff time of administering your cancellation.
If you cancel after the final cancellation date you will loose your full deposit. If you are working another festival with People & Planet you will then need to pay another deposit to cover you for the other festival you are working, otherwise you will loose your place.
Final Cancellation dates:
- Green Man: 20 July
- Reading Festival: 28 July
- Leeds Festival: 28 July
- Glastonbury: 26 May
- Latitude: 16 June
If you can’t make it to a festival at the last minute because of illness, bereavement or some other unavoidable complication, please call us to let us know as soon as possible on 01865 249218 or by emailing the Festivals Team. You will need to submit your reason for cancelling in writing and if you provide a valid sick note or other documentary evidence, we will consider your case regarding getting your deposit back, minus a £20 admin fee.
If you don’t turn up to one or more festivals and don’t contact the office to let us know, you will forfeit your full deposit, and be denied from going to future festivals with People & Planet.
Steward Groups
You can request to work as part of a steward group. While we will make every effort to rota you with your friends we cannot guarantee this.

Access
If you have mobility difficulties we may still be able to find a suitable role for you. Please indicate what your disability is on your application form so that we can give you an appropriate job. There are a small number of roles at the festivals that do not require you to stand for long periods. Please note that to get to and from your shifts you may need to cover fairly long distances across fields and the accommodation is camping.
Camping
Please bring your own tent and camping gear.
Food
Please bring food if you wish to self-cater, or money to purchase food from the stalls. You will not be provided with food.
Transport
You will need to make your own way to the festivals.
