Section 1: Should we continue with HIV/AIDS or Trade in 2008/09?

The Forum: Come together to discuss the future of people & planet
The first big decision due to be taken at The Forum 2008 was whether to continue with the Treat AIDS Now or Redress Fashion campaign in 2008-09.

However, financial analysis just before The Forum meant that instead of being able to support either campaign with a full-time campaigns officer as planned, the P&P office no longer had such capacity. It would now have to prioritise whichever campaign was most popular with participants at The Forum and allocate its limited resources accordingly.

Following student analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of each campaign, spectrum lines to portray which campaign students were swaying towards and small group discussion, the final vote came out at 72% in favour of Redress Fashion. This campaign will therefore receive office support for 2008/09.

The discussions around the two campaigns inspired large numbers of people to such an extent that it is highly likely that both Treat AIDS Now and Redress Fashion will continue in a DIY-style. This means that the students in the network take on more responsibility for planning and running the campaigns. If you’re interested in this exciting opportunity but couldn’t come to The Forum, please email Campaigns and we can put you in touch with like-minded students!
