How to get loads of petitions signed

Go Green Stalls

The best way to collect signatures is to hold a series of stalls. Set up a stall in a prominent place and use posters and other decorations to make the stall look appealing. Have plenty of Go Green windmill petitions on the stall for people to sign, and make sure that you’re ready to explain what you’re doing and why.

The windmill petitions have a space where people can sign up to support the campaign. If they tick the first box, collect all their names and contact details so you can keep them updated on what you’re doing. If they also tick the second box, send all the names and contact details to the People & Planet office so that we can add them to the free national news service.

Go Green Events

An event is a great, visible way to inform students and staff about the campaign and gain their support. To get as many students as possible involved try to make it quirky and fun. Events that have been run by People & Planet groups in the past include green non-uniform days, film showings, waste sculptures, green assemblies and car free days.

Don’t forgot to have some windmill petitions at hand for interested people to sign.

Go Green Noticeboard

Use it to publicise your aims and give updates on progress. You can also put up interesting articles and pictures on the theme of climate change.

Green Cake Sale

Bake some tasty homemade cakes (use Fairtrade, local and organic ingredients if possible), and add green food colouring for an eye-catching way to draw attention to your stall. You can use this as a fundraiser too.

Go Green Flyers and Posters

Design eye-catching flyers and posters, print them on green, recycled paper, and put them under the windscreen wipers of people’s cars, above light switches and on computers, in prominent places like the common room, students’ union, queuing area for the canteen, back of toilet doors…
