Go Green Actions

  • Portsmouth P&P are getting ready to launch their Go Green campaign with an exciting Go Green Week in May.
  • Go Green Leaf Petitions will be collected all week and displayed in a ‘forest’ on the last day which will be a huge green-themed carnival.
  • Creative talents have gone into overdrive and P&Pers are planning to make cardboard cut-outs of Adam and Eve (with appropriately-placed green leaves) which people can place their heads through and be photographed with!
  • P&P member Elle Gray, who is also an elected sabb officer, has already met with the VC to make the case for Portsmouth going green. The meeting focussed on the need for a new environmental manager (the last one resigned 5 years ago and was never replaced). P&Pers gave the example of Oxford Brookes University and showed the VC a DVD by the Carbon Trust setting out the benefits of tackling environmental performance.
  • It was clear from the meeting with their VC that he doesn’t consider environmental issues as high up on the agenda, but a follow-up meeting has been scheduled to make sure that the environment does become a priority at Portsmouth University.
  • The group are also using the Freedom of Information Act to collect information about the university’s environmental performance and management systems.
