Let the university know what you think of their response
The key thing when you get a reply from the University is to avoid changing the campaign from one involving lots of students, to one where your only campaign activity involves just 2 or 3 of you sitting down and discussing the issues with the Vice Chancellor/Principal/Director. While you will probably need to do this, this must not be your only campaign tactic. Don’t drop the public campaign - as we believe this pressure will be crucial to win the campaign. See ‘How to get your campaign noticed’ for new ways to keep the pressure on. You need to combine lobbying and running the campaign in a way that involves lots of students.
Within a month, you should have a reply to your letter from the University. Send a copy of the reply to the People & Planet Support Office. We will be able to give you advice on how to respond to what the university is saying, plus it will help us build up a picture of how the campaign is working across the country.
So does the University meet the 4 key criteria or not? It should be a simple case of yes or no and you should be able to judge it. However, it is possible that the University might try using a bit of spin and dress up using 100% green electricity or having a recycling scheme as having gone green. But don’t accept second best! See ‘How your University might respond’ for a few ways that we expect universities might respond to the campaign, and possible replies.
