Getting Your Go Green Week Events Noticed
Whatever events and actions you organise it’s crucial to publicise them so that as many people as possible come along and join in.
Get the press involved. They love a bit of it.
Press and media
As well as publicising your events to other students, it’s really important that the press are aware of what’s happening. Your Headteacher or Principal will react to press coverage, so get in contact with your local newspapers, radio stations, TV channels and websites (as well as the student newspaper, radios station etc) and let them know what you’re doing and why. They’ll be interested in your story as it’s about local residents (you guys) and your Head/Principal will have to sit up and take notice.
Check out our guide to using the media during Go Green Week.
What’s On pages here @ peopleandplanet.org
Add your events to our What’s On page so that other P&P groups can see what you’re doing. You might also be contacted by local press if they look up what you’re doing.
Make sure that the People & Planet Support Office know what you’re planning so that we can inform the national media of what groups across the nation are doing. The best way to do this is through the What’s On page, where you can submit details of your events.
Fall in Love with Your Climate posters and flyers
We’ve got loads of designs and logos you can use for your flyers and posters during Go Green Week. You can use them to make everything look really professional and add information on your own events and activities. Check out the Go Green Week designs and downloads
Flyers
Print them on green, recycled paper. Or if you can re-use some old paper even better. Just make sure what’s on the back doesn’t get confused for the message in your flyer!
Spread them around. Get them to every nook and cranny of your school/college where flyers could be picked up. Reception, the library, the canteen and common rooms are all great places to leave flyers for people to pick up.

Posters
Use posters to advertise your Go Green Week by putting them all over your school or college.
You could have them chock-full of all the events and actions you’re doing during the week, or you could just be trying to raise awareness of the fact the week is happening. You should make sure you point people towards websites, facebook or anywhere they could get more information. Most people won’t digest all the information on the poster so it’s important they can find out more later.
Emails
It’s really important everyone on your email list knows what’s going on during the week. Some of them will be directly involved in organising the week, but there’ll be loads of others who you never hear from and you probably don’t even know who they are. But they do read the emails and you want these people to come along as they may be interested in joining the group, or at the very least are sympathetic to your cause.
Also, ask your teachers or IT staff whether they can email all students to make them aware of what’s going on.
Web, Facebook, Myspace…
Be sure to update your web site with details of events and actions during the week. Try and get the IT staff to publicise Go Green Week on their website or intranet. Don’t forget about social networking sites like Facebook, Myspace and Bebo.
