Planning your Go Green Week
Get planning your activities for Go Green Week as soon as possible
The key to running a successful Go Green Week is to start planning the event as far in advance as possible. It’s also really important to meet regularly and keep in contact with everyone involved.
Is a whole week too much?
Why not hold a Go Green Day instead? If it’s between 8-12 February it’ll still be part of Go Green Week. If it’s your last week before half term you could hold your Go Green Day on that last day which would be just before Valentine’s. Perfect for fitting in with the Valentine’s theme (especially if you use our Valentine’s cards).
You don’t have to do loads of events and actions for Go Green Week and a Go Green Day can be just as effective. Even just a green uniform day or a stall during lunchtime means your school or college will be part of the national whirlwind of activities happening throughout the week. Check out what you can do during Go Green Week for ideas and inspiration for your Go Green Week (or Go Green Day!)

Whether you’re planning on a week filled with actions and events, or just a day of awareness-raising and fun, make sure you read through the steps below to make sure your Go Green Week is super-successful!
Brainstorm. Start by brainstorming all your ideas for actions and events. They can be as mad, weird and unlikely as you want. Check out our What you can do page for some great suggestions and inspiration. Don’t forget about this years Fall in Love with the Climate theme. Valentine’s is at the end of Go Green Week, so try and use that for ideas and inspiration. You can also use our FREE Valentine’s cards like a petition as part of your lobbying.
Choose. Decide which actions and events you want to do and which day of the week you want to hold them. It’s a good idea to find out what other events are happening that week so you avoid any clashes.
Money. Look at your budget for Go Green Week. Can you apply for money from your school or college? How about the student council or student union? Or do you already have enough in your group’s account? Try and work out how much money you are going to raise against the cost of putting it on. Are you going to re-coup all of your costs or spend the money in order to make a great campaign?
Fundraising. Think about how you can fit fundraising into your ideas. Hold a Green Curry Night or see where you can sell merchandise at your events. Check out loads of ideas for raising cash.
Collaborate. Talk to other groups and people who may be interested or could help you: teachers, support staff, student council, other groups, students union…
List the tasks. Draw up a list of tasks for each action and event and when they need to be done by.
Delegate. Decide who is responsible for each task. Make sure everyone is clear who is doing what, how to do it and when to do it by.
Get noticed. Don’t forget about the media. Check out our guide to getting noticed.
Keep in contact with each other. Have regular meetings and keep in contact to check progress.
Let us know. Make sure you let us know what you’re planning so that we can let the media know what groups are up to across the UK. The best way to do this is through the What’s On page, where you can submit details of your events. Alternatively, contact Alys by email or phone on 01865 245678.
If you follow all that, your plans for Go Green Week or Go Green Day should be coming along nicely. If you need some inspiration though, check out what you can do during Go Green Week.
