Leeds Uni P&P raised so much money, they needed a bigger cheque
Why Fundraise for P&P?
Winning the British Environment and Media Award 2007 for best campaign is proof that Go Green is widely accepted as being at the forefront of efforts to combat climate change and that students are at the heart of transforming our society into a truly sustainable one.
Yet despite the clear need for hardhitting campaigns like Go Green, finding the funds for radical campaigning is a challenge.
This is where you come in! With funds raised by P&Pers, People & Planet can plan long-term, effective campaigns, safe in the knowledge of a sustainable source of income. Money raised by students does not come with strings attached, allowing P&P to preserve its independence and commitment to being student-led.
That is why we are asking you to incorporate a fundraising action into your Go Green Week activities. If each group managed to raise just £100 we would have enough money to produce all our Go Green campaign materials for a whole year (£5,000).
What can you do to raise some dosh for P&P?
We’ve come up with the following ideas to help you fundraise for P&P, but feel free to come up with your own Green themed fundraising ideas.
Green Curry Night
Get your friends (and their friends and their friends and…) together for a splendiforous night of curry, crazyness and cash. Cook up a storm in the kitchen and charge everyone just £5 for your delicious meal. You can also sell drinks and play games to increase your income. Check out our guide to holding a fabulous Green Curry Night.
Green Market Stall
Holding a Green Market Stall is a simple but effective way of raising lots of cash whilst raising awareness about your campaign and your group. All you need is a table and chairs, permission from a teacher and some funky eye-catching materials to liven up its appearance. Why not paint some noticeboards on some old cardboard, advertising your green produce?
Things you could sell on your Green Market Stall:
Green goodies: bake organic cakes or cookies and dye them green to get them noticed! You could try making green vegan jelly (you might have to dye it green) or non-alcoholic punch, or even (pea) green soup.
Tetra Pak Wallets: find out how to make these ingenious wallets made from old drinks cartons.
People & Planet T-shirts: we can send these to you on sale and return. Stylish, ethically traded and sweatshop free. Even Obama has been spotted wearing one. To order some email Louise in the P&P office.
You could host a Green Fayre or market place, charging local traders and craftspeople to come and pitch a stall. You’ll be surprised who’s around in your area and if you speak to other local campaigners they’ll have loads of great contacts for craftspeople and ethical stores.
