A week of amazing events

  • Student will be giving a talk in their Sixth Form assembly next week, with a youtube video clip and just a message informing people of how they can stay green and what the week is generally about.

  • They are also going to record a green radio programme to be played at lunch and break times on Thursday and Friday!

  • Friday there is a sponsored green day for Sixth Formers - everyone wears green clothes and there will be a green cake/sweets sale as well! All the proceeds will go to the People & Planet scheme.

  • They also want to get the Head teacher and Leaders of the Sixth Form to sign the go green pledge and are trying to persuade people to car pool, walk or cycle to school.

  • THROUGHOUT THE WEEK: ‘Pledge Hedge’ Students will make individual pledges to cut their carbon, write them on Go Green Week Valentine’s cards and stick them to a giant hedge that art students have made. The college will then hold a pledge signing ceremony where the head agrees to sign up to 10:10 and reduce the colleges carbon emissions by 10% over the next year

  • MONDAY: People & Planet’s Fiona will be talking to the FE students about how they can take action on Climate Change UC Unplugged - an acoustic evening of music and poetry by candlelight. Plus: The Big Green Raffle with fantastic prizes on offer!

  • TUESDAY,THURSDAY and FRIDAY: “Think Green Fairs” will offer staff and students the chance to find out more about environmental issues, charities and organisations with free food also on offer.

  • THURSDAY: Screening of ‘Age of Stupid’

  • WEDNESDAY: The BIG Go Green Meeting… Come find out what the College, the SU, and the students themselves have been doing over the past year to make our university greener. With Eleanor Hooper (P&P), Alice Redfern (ethics & environment officer), Anna Simpson (sustainability officer), and others talking on the panel.

  • THURSDAY: The Canned Film Festival: Bring all your tins and cans to be recycled and watch a free screening of (TBC) also hopefully collect money for P&P this night. Talk: ‘How do we move forward post-Copenhagen’ between 6-8.30 pm

New Hall Preparatory School

Week of events

  • Mark Dowd, from Operation Noah, will be coming in to talk to the children about Eco awareness,
  • The Recycling Bus will be coming into school on Thursday and Friday to work with two classes
  • Dress in Green Friday.
  • In class they will also be learning about different ways they can help to look after our environment ranging from ways to recycle, insulating our homes, how we can limit CO2 emissions to Wind turbines.
  • The students will share the work that they have done in their Friday assembly.
  • The students and parents are going to be asked to bring in any unwanted clothes, mobile phones and printer cartridges which will go towards supporting the RNIB.
  • Eco Fashion Design Competition where the winner will have their design made and they can model it at a Fashion Show held next month.

Providing information, offering discounts, running a Bring and Share Valentine’s veggie meal and holding a raffle. This is only phase one of their Meat Free Plan as they will be pressuring the university to increase the number of veggie options available. They also plan to spread the scheme across halls and the other university shops and cafes on campus.

Sign a giant 10:10 Valentine’s card

The Nottingham P&P group will be asking staff and students to sign a giant Valentine’s Card asking the VC to sign Nottingham up to the 10:10 challenge and they’ll also be asking everyone to sign up to cut their own carbon footprint by 10% in 2010.
