Kent University People & Planet
Energy Descent Planning
In 2010 Kent People & Planet handed their very own Renewable Energy Business Plan and Feasibility Study to the Deputy Vice Chancellor Keith Nander. The Chancellor’s response was positive and the group is now waiting for the outcomes of internal university discussions. Next academic year will be about ensuring this new energy and business plan becomes a reality and getting students and staff involved in implementation on the ground.
Go Green Week
For Go Green Week 2010 Kent P&P organised a green themed pub quiz and a very successful Swap Shop. The swap shop continues to be a regular feature run each month which allows students to swap clothes - saving emissions through re-use and recycling. A birdbox building workshop was also a success and was followed by a walk around the greener parts of the campus to install the boxes. Their Go Green Week was themed into different days, focussing on key behaviours such as food (with discounts available on veggie food), waste, energy, travel and biodiversity.
Building Community
The Kent P&P group has also visited local Further Education colleges to promote People & Planet and human rights and environmental issues. They also got involved with the Greenpeace Climate Fair in Canterbury with a stall focussing on environmental issues. The group is also looking into getting clothing bins for the university that would raise money and clothing donations for a local students against homelessness charity.
