Campus businesses

How can you get the businesses around your campus to get on board with the transition?

Students have massive spending power and companies are clamoring for our cash. By making deals with local businesses, we can get them moving too and reducing their carbon pollution.

Case Study: 9 Carrots at Bristol Uni

Working with the Student Union, People & Planet at the University of Birmingham are launching a scheme called “9carrots”. How it works is simple but clever: in return for free publicity, the local businesses agree to invest 10% of the extra custom they receive towards making themselves more energy-efficient. Like installing low-energy lighting, new refrigerators or electric vehicles, for example.

The scheme has already shown promising results in London and is easy for a People & Planet group to get going, as all the hard work has been done already. If you’re interested in starting the scheme in your area, get in touch with 9carrots or visit 9carrots website and ask for a starter pack.
