Funding your Transition project
Get funding
Whatever projects you come up with, you’ll need some funding.
Here’s an innovative way of raising some cash.
Set up a CO£2 Transition Fund. Lobby the university to commit £2 for every staff member or student who signs your Going Greener petition. Everyone loves free money so it shouldn’t be hard to convince people to sign. It’s a great way to build up a mailing list to promote your Big Launch events. Plus it’s a cost-effective way for the university to achieve carbon reductions. Download a template petition form or set up an online CO£2 Fund petition.
Don’t forget that for just £3 a month, anyone can also support People & Planet’s work to achieve a low-carbon, lower-energy education sector. Sign up new members to our FAN Club.
Case Study: Transition Edinburgh Uni
Edinburgh People & Planet managed to get funding from the Scottish Climate Challenge Fund to run a Transition Uni campaign on their campus. Student Unions should provide funding to start up some projects, you may need to start up a new society with the specific aims of the project to force their hand.
Aside from union funds and your own fundraising schemes, there may be small local grants that you could apply for. The key to finding and applying for grants, is research. Just search the web or ask your local library to help you find grants and trusts information.
