On 10 October 2010 students everywhere will be taking simple steps to save energy and reduce emissions. With your help 10:10:10 is going to be the biggest global day of carbon cutting ever. Not only will we be cutting carbon directly; we will also be sending a powerful message to world leaders that students everywhere are ready to take action for the climate.
Yes, it might sound ambitious, but already over 600 people have joined our 10:10:10 Facebook event. Great ideas so far include:
- Gather a group of students together and change all the light bulbs in your halls to energy efficient bulbs
- Hold a low-carbon veggie meal day in the dining hall and put up flyers
- Launch a challenge to cut your halls’ water use in half and hand out low-flow showerheads on 10/10/10.
- Ask your friends to cycle to school/uni with you
- Prepare an area of land on campus to create an organic garden
Free 10:10 window sticker
As part of our Going Greener campaign, we’re urging university groups, student unions, staff groups and even Vice-Chancellors to get planning and roll out some fantastic practical projects on 10 October that involve as many people as possible.
The first 50 schools, colleges & unis to register their 10:10:10 actions with us will receive a free 10:10 window sticker. Remember to tell us your group name, your uni/college, your address and what your action will involve.
Thousands of ordinary actions, such as these, will add up to make an extraordinary difference. Find out what’s planned near you or register your own idea - the earlier the better – on our Facebook page.
