Dear David... please Stop Climate Chaos!
Take action by writing an email to the new Secretary of State for the Environment and telling him to get to work on stopping climate chaos.
There’s been a change of personnel at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). David Miliband is the new Secretary of State for the environment.
DEFRA are the government department responsible for policy and action on climate change. So what remains to be seen is whether a new leader will actually mean a new commitment to doing what they really should be doing and putting climate change at the top of the government’s agenda.
In order to make sure they do exactly that People & Planet along with all the other members of the Stop Climate Chaos coalition are seizing the initiative and getting in touch with Mr Miliband.
Why not send him a nice email saying “well done” on the new job and letting him know what he needs to get right on with doing?
Some suggested text for an email can be found below but feel free to change it or add things too. Why not start off by reading up on Stop Climate Chaos.
Alternatively you can send comments to Mr Miliband directly via his blog

Stopping Climate Chaos
Dear Secretary of State, Congratulations on your recent appointment as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. As a supporter of People & Planet and Stop Climate Chaos, I completely agree with you that climate change is the greatest of global threats. I urge you to do everything in your power in your new role to ensure that the UK Government responds fully to this threat by: * acting to ensure that global greenhouse gas emissions are falling by 2015
* ensuring that UK greenhouse gas emissions fall by 3% year on year from now on and setting a UK Carbon Budget to make this happen
* helping poor countries to cope with disasters caused by climate change and get access to clean energy to help eliminate poverty. Yours sincerely,
