Coming along to events such as Shared Planet, The Forum and campaigning events such as the Stop Climate Chaos Carbon-dating event will give your group inspiration, as you see that you’re part of a much wider movement. Getting your group to come to events can be stressful, but using the info below should help.
Booking your place
We need to know who is coming to our event in advance, so make sure you book by:
- Bringing up the event with the group early and working out who wants to come.
- Letting your support staff in the office know.
- Booking your place at least a fortnight in advance as this will allow you to book cheaper travel. You can book free events such as The Forum by emailing the office, for those such as Shared Planet where there is a cost, you can either fill in the form online, post your booking form and cheque through or phone. Have a credit/debit card handy for this.
Transport
One of the main things that might put you off coming to an event, particularly if it is far away, is the cost. But booking in advance means that travelling by train or bus is usually affordable:
- You can do this online or at your local station.
- For trains and buses see traveline.org.uk
- We also run schemes such as ‘Cycle to Shared Planet’ where we encourage people to collect sponsorship by cycling to the event. You can find cycle routes at Sustrans.org.uk.
Don’t hesitate to ask your support staff about transport as we regularly travel around the UK and should be able to help you plan your journey.
