Emma and Sian en route to London

Emma Hughes of Cardiff People & Planet group reports:

In four days Sian Miles and I cycled from Cardiff to London to raise money for People and Planet. Despite a general lack of fitness and disparaging comments from those who knew us we were not to be deterred; so on the 31st October armed only with several tonnes of cashew nuts and some particularly unflattering cycling shorts we set off. Our journey was beset with plenty of unfortunate incidents including a missing pedal, the inexplicable complexities of Reading´s cycle paths and Emma falling off her bike into a particularly large pool of mud. But overall the experience was enjoyable — we had plenty of sunshine and saw some beautiful countryside, highlights included going over the Severn Bridge, the gorgeous Wiltshire hills and cycling along Oxford Street- mad! Cycling to Shared Planet is a great way to raise money for P and P— it´s amazing how generous people will be when you mention the words four day cycle ride — but it was also personally very satisfying to travel to Shared Planet in a carbon neutral way. I certainly wasn´t particularly fit before I left but it´s amazing what you can do if you just keep cycling!
