Lukie from Aberystwyth University People & Planet group reports:

We knew our local MP Mark Williams had signed the pill cards to send to Gordon Brown and Hiliary Benn. However, as a group we wanted him to take on a more active role. So we got him to meet his local People & Planet group to discuss the Treat AIDS Now campaign in more detail.

We lobbied him to write a letter stating that this is a pandemic that must be treated now. He agreed, stating that he fully supported this campaign and would sign the Early Day Motion (EDM) on AIDS treatment.

In regards to the stamp duty on sterling transactions, we were expecting to meet some resistance, but he seemed to agree that something must be done.

He listened intently as we explained more about how the TRIPS agreement is making AIDS treatment so difficult for many nations. We put forward that the stamp duty is vitally important to fighting AIDS worldwide and that it would be one of the most effective methods of getting more money into the Global Fund.
