Treat AIDS Now week at Atlantic College

Atlantic College students Chris and Sarah organised a whole week of Treat AIDS Now activities and action around World AIDS Day, including workshops, lectures and films to raise awareness and a fundraising Red Ribbon Ball, whilst calling for action and collecting signatures for the campaign.

Chris and Sarah from Atlantic College report:

We regularly have so-called focus weeks here at Atlantic College and World AIDS Day seemed like the perfect time to make people aware of the issues around access to AIDS treatment and get them to take action.

We started off by organising a series of lectures and films to raise awareness. We also did a Treat AIDS Now workshop, like the one we attended at Shared Planet in November. Our fundraising `Red Ribbon Ball“ was a great success and raised money for People & Planet and an African charitable project.

The week ended with a talk and question time with Dani from People & Planet. At the end of the question time we presented her with all of the action cards that students had signed during the week. This was followed by a get-together over some food and drinks.

Atlantic College draws students from all over the world and this provided a great opportunity for everyone to share knowledge of and experiences relating to HIV/AIDS. It was fantastic to see fellow students not only interested in the issue, but also ready to take action.
