Essex People & Planet group held a really visual stall leading up to and on World AIDS Day itself with banners and posters showing the shocking statistics of HIV/AIDS prevalance around the world. Lots of the ideas came from the Treat AIDS Now action guide and they had also made delicious vegan cookies to attract people to sign their pillcard petitions!

Maddy from Essex said:

“It was pouring with rain on World AIDS Day so all the pill cards started to disintegrate, however we managed to get them all filled in!”

Last week the P&P group presented their petition cards to their MP, Bob Russell. He had already signed EDM 107 (Universal Access to Treatment by 2010) but agreed to write a letter to Hilary Benn, the Secretary of State for International Development, about the issue and to look into signing EDM 376 (Sterling Stamp Duty).

Maddy added:

“It’s amazing how much MPs don’t know about things such as international trade laws etc. Maybe the ones who are in government know more?”
