Tim Gee, from Edinburgh Uni P&P group reports:
Edinburgh Students celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight have launched a video about their experience of being a Fairtrade University.
The video — launched on You Tube this week — interviews Edinburgh rector Mark Ballard MSP and St Andrews rector Simon Pepper as well as student campaigners and university staff about their experiences.
Note: The video is in two parts.
Part 1
Part 2
Edinburgh People and Planeteer Ben Miller said:
“When Edinburgh became a Fairtrade University we raised UK Fairtrade sales by a few percent, and tangibly helped many farmers in the third world. We want more universities to follow suit”.
Film-maker Ellie Price said:
“Everywhere we have previewed the film it has had a really good reception. We hope that it will be effective in persuading people to make the switch”.
Edinburgh was Scotland´s first and the UK´s second Fairtrade University. Since then thirty- three others have followed suit.
The film will be shown all day on a big screen in Appleton Tower on 8 March at Edinburgh University´s official Fairtrade Fortnight event.
