New deals: New danger - Take action for Trade Justice
Join the Trade Justice Movement in delivering the trade justice message to every government in the European Union (EU).
Trade Justice Carnival, 2001
Thursday 19 April 2007 from 11am, Belgrave Square, London SW1
The governments of the EU are pushing unfair trade deals on 75 countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP). These countries - including some of the poorest in the world - are under pressure from Europe as it rushes to complete these deals by the end of the year. But there is still time to stop Europe’s unfair trade deals.
The deals - called Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) - are set to put jobs and economies at risk in developing countries, undermine healthcare provision and education for poor people, as well as damage their environment.
Come to this event and take action with campaigners across Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific. Demand that the EU stops negotiating unfair trade deals with developing countries.
What is happening at the Trade Justice Action?
Gather for a rally outside the German embassy and call on the German government, as current holders of the EU Presidency, to take action to stop Europe pushing unfair trade deals on poor countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific. Then go on to deliver the trade justice message to the remaining governments of the EU at their embassies around central London as well as the UK´s Department of Trade and Industry. By taking part on the 19 April, you will be joining forces with campaigners in Europe and Africa taking similar action against these unfair trade deals.
