Proposal from Forum session

How it’s been put into practice

That the support office should maintain a dual focus on access to generics and sustainable and increased funding

The AIDS campaign was relaunched at Shared Planet 06 and incorporates a dual focus. The campaign proposes that an additional source of sustainable funding could be drawn from a stamp duty on currency transactions and looks to increase access to generic drugs.

Look into the feasibility of targeting different actors, e.g. Big pharma, the EU and Private Funders

We have selected a limited number of targets so our efforts are more focused. We are not therefore targeting the EU directly. Pharmaceutical companies are not the major focus of the campaign because it seemed more strategic to change the rules rather than the behaviour of specific companies. However, there is still potential to target them on an ad hoc basis if it seems useful - Abbot and Gilead could be particular targets as they manufacture two key drugs which the campaign takes as test-cases for access.

Receive input from the network on the development of a new campaign pack.

The support office asked if any groups wanted to take part in a consultation session through the key organisers list and the network emails, but there were no replies. We will continue to work on different ways and times to consult the network. If you have any suggestions, get in touch.
