Gordon Brown misses meeting with Father Christmas
News on the recent Christmas themed lobby of Parliament in the run up to the National Climate March on Saturday 8 December. Ho ho ho.
Gordon Brown missed the opportunity to meet with Father Christmas on Thursday 6 December as the latter paid a visit to Parliament Square so that he could, in a departure from normal practice, deliver his own Christmas wish list. He will have had to have been very good this year as he made some big asks, including:
A Climate Bill including 80% Carbon reductions by 2050
A new Kyoto deal in 2012
A carbon neutral sleigh
For everyone to join the Climate March Saturday 8th December Millbank
During his visit, on which he was accompanied by reindeer, elves, polar bears, and a penguin, Father Christmas engaged in a bit of climate carol singing as the assembled crowd of North Pole residents offered up their renditions of Climate Bells, and The Twelve Days of Climate Change.
Speaking through his representative, UCL People & Planet member and London Regional Rep Richard Roaf, Father Christmas said:
7 Universities are here today but students across the globe are taking action around the climate talks in Bali. Students are more environmentally aware than ever before, we know we will have to live with the effects of a damaged planet. This Christmas the best present we can give future generations is a strong Climate Bill. We are inviting everyone who agrees to join us at the Climate March on Saturday to send this message through the medium of song.
So, come on then kids, rather than the standard mince pies and sherry let’s give jolly old Saint Nicholas what he really wants this year by campaigning for an end to climate chaos.
