Students from Hayesfield School take on Topshop in Bath
Students from Hayesfield School in Bath joined in the national day of action against Topshop with a successful protest on their highstreet.
Students from Bath Hayesfield School protest against Topshop’s exploitation of workers
During the protest, the students spent time talking to shoppers about workers’ rights. They handed out leaflets to raising awareness about Topshop’s unethical business practices and the working conditions of those producing the garments. They also collected signatures from shoppers for a petition calling for Topshop to sign the Ethical Trading Initiative.
A-level student Telche Hanley-Moyle said:
We wanted to put pressure on Topshop to sign the Ethical Trading Initiative, which would ensure that they are, at least, trying to work towards becoming a more ethical retailer.
We also felt the need to educate people about the conditions under which many of the Topshop garments workers produce goods, and to get the message across that we care where our clothes are from and what conditions they have been made in.
The students are part of Hayesfield school’s ethical group, which meets during lunchtimes, and has been spending time researching retailers.
They secured great coverage of this action in their local newspaper.
This action was part of the Redress Fashion campaign. Why not order a campaign pack to run it with your group?
