The People & Planet group at Chipping Campden school were started at the beginning of the school year and they’ve gone from strength to strength ever since. The group decided to focus on getting Fairtrade Status for the school, but they’re also planning to do some work on the school’s environmental performance.
On the 13th December the group organised a Fairtrade hot drinks stall which turned out to be a huge success. Matt McMullen, the group leader, said:
“The coffee day went really well. We made £50.04 pure profit, that’s with all expenses (milk + sugar) deducted. We will be holding another next Tuesday which we are hoping will be just as successful. With the money we will fund further events and use it to produce leaflets, badges and banners.”

The day before the event, the group’s People & Planet group supporter went to the school to run a workshop to help the group recruit more members and raise their profile. Matt felt it was a success:
“I don’t think the day would have been as successful with out the workshop though, because i felt that people really understood what Fairtrade is and how it is they are helping. […]they found it really interesting and interactive.”
If you’re in a 6th form group and you think you could do with a little help raising the profile of your group, get in touch with your group supporter and book them in to come and run a workshop.
