P&Pers call for a 0.005% duty on sterling, which could raise more than $2 billion a year for international development.

New money is urgently needed if the world is to meet the promise of universal access to AIDS treatment and services and the Millennium Development Goals to reduce poverty. Governments have consistently failed to honour their commitments to increase aid, so new ways must be found to generate additional funding. A stamp duty, or charge, on foreign currency transactions could raise this revenue now.
