Political will behind the sterling stamp duty is building, but the UK government is still offering no concrete reason for its refusal to implement it.
“The question we need to ask ourselves, is not whether the UK can afford a modest stamp duty on currency transactions, because we can afford it, but rather, what will the cost be to the world if we don’t implement it.” RT Hon Shirley Williams, House of Lords
Hold a Film Showing
‘Can pay, Should pay’ is a great film, but it will be even greater if lots of people see it. Organise a film showing to tell students how a sterling stamp duty can help the fight against HIV and AIDS and why the UK government should act now.
Use the materials in the pack to get briefed and deck to out the room with quotes from those in support. Set up the film, create space for debate, sign a letter to the Prime Minister, and even fundraise for P&P.
