P&P protest outside E.ON HQ in Warwick

Around thirty students from the University of Warwick marched from their campus to the Headquarters of energy company E.ON last week to express their anger at plans to build a new coal power station in Kent.

If built, seven more will follow across the UK and carbon emission targets will go up in smoke. It is absolutely crucial that Kingsnorth does not go ahead and Warwick students have a great opportunity to get this message across - E.ON HQ is on a Business Park not more than half an hour’s walk from campus.

Police escorted us along our route and workers on the Business Park stopped to ask us what was going on. Several were really supportive of P&P’s actions. Upon arrival at the E.ON building (they are situated next door to Royal Bank of Scotland!), we were met by fellow activists from Rising Tide Leamington Spa and established our cooling towers proclaiming ‘No More Coal’ right outside the doors.

E.ON PR officer comes to talk to P&P

After half an hour of chanting and a game to show just how difficult carbon capture and storage remains, an E.ON employee came to speak with the Warwick group. She said little to assuage P&P’s concerns and the weather wasn’t kind to her either. It started to rain heavily as she started to speak, washing away her own greenwash down the drains and into the sewer.

If you haven’t written to your MP about Kingsnorth yet then do it now!
