Go Green Week (or should that be months...)
P&P groups have been holding loads of Go Green Weeks over the last couple of months. Check out the highlights.
This year has been the best yet with loads of groups in schools, colleges and universities taking action, raising awareness and calling for the education sector to Go Green. Well done to everyone who’s got involved. Here are some of the highlights from around the network…
Oxford Uni | Malmesbury School | Cardiff Uni | UCL Farnborough VIth Form | Warwick Uni | Exeter Uni | P&P Interns

Oxford Uni P&P
The P&P group at Oxford Uni had a massively succesful week after spending it getting 1000 Valentine’s cards addressed to the VC signed.
They caused such a stir that the uni agreed to employ an Environmental Manager the day before the cards were to be presented to the VC. Shows you how just the threat of an action can have such a huge impact.
The group still presented the Valentine’s cards to the VC and Caroline Lucas, Green Party Leader and local MEP, spoke out aganist the uni’s terrible environmental record. Check out the full story of how Oxford Uni P&P scared their VC into meeting their demands.
Malmesbury School P&P
Malmesbury School’s Go Green Week turned into Go White Week as snow closed the school for three days. But that didn’t stop the super-group who still managed to put on special lessons for students in lower years, put on interactive assemblies and get the Go Green pledge signed by their headteacher (as well as the majority of the school).
The group got students and staff to sign a huge world map to put pressure on the headteacher to sign the Go Green pledge. They’re now going to display the map somewhere prominent in the school. With so much going on they did a fantastic job of getting the local paper to feature them with a huge picture. Well done everyone!

Cardiff Uni P&P
Cardiff Uni P&P had a fantastic week of lobbying and green curry.
To kick the week off the group sat down for a lovely green curry using the Go Green Curry recipe put together exclusively for P&P by Allegra McEvedy. Everyone had a lovely time and they managed to raise é40 just from donations. Well done guys!
The curry obviously helped them get ready for what turned out to be a fantastic Question Time with Mick Bates, Welsh Assembly Member. The audience asked some great questions which resulted in Mick agreeing to sign a report the group have put together for the VC and he has already booked another meeting with senior staff to increase pressure on them. Check out the full story of how the Welsh Assembly Member is going to help the group’s Go Green campaign.
UCL’s amazing Green Fair
UCL P&P
UCL P&P presented loads of Go Green Valentine’s cards to the uni’s Provost (equivalent to a Vice Chancellor) with a copy of the really strong environmental policy which had recently been passed by UCL’s students’ union.
The P&P group also held a massive Green Fair on the quad in front of uni. Loads of students and staff got involved in the group’s Go Green campaign as well as making bike-powered smoothies with Blender Vender, getting free bike servicing with Dr Bike and the local council came out in force to talk recycling and energy efficiency.
Farnborough Sixth Form College P&P
Farnborough Sixth Form College P&P had a really successful week with the whole college getting involved. Loads of students signed personal pledges and made a Pledge Tree in the main cafe. This put loads of pressure on the Vice Principal to sign the Go Green pledge, which he eventually did.
The P&P group also put on loads of other events including an ethical fashion show, got the body shop to give out freebies and had a lights out day.
Warwick Uni P&P

Warwick Uni P&P held a week jam-packed with Go Green activities. You name it, they did it. A visit to the local CHP plant, a fashion show, a green careers fair and an amazing Question Time. Hundreds of petitions were signed calling for the uni to drag itself out of the Green League doldrums. Check out this amazing video of their Go Green Week.
Exeter Uni P&P
Exeter Uni P&P held an amazing Green Curry Night raising a superb £160 for P&P.
They hired a local community centre (they are always very cheap), got out loads of publicity and got cooking. In the end they managed to get 45 people along. They then simply charged a very modest £3.50 for the wonderful curry and 50p for cake.
Green Curry Night anyone?
Even though Go Green Week may be over, you can still put on a fantastic Green Curry Night fundraiser for P&P. It’s really easy to do and we’ve given you all the info you need including a scrum-diddlyumptious recipe from Guardian columnist, Allegra McEvedy. Check out how to put on your own Green Curry Night
Alleycaters in Oxford pose for the newspaper
P&P Interns
P&P’s dedicated cohort of interns (we would say that) decided that Go Green Week was a perfect opportunity to raise some money for P&P and, of course, have some fun.
A Go Green themed Alleycat (a bicycle treasure hunt) was held across Oxford ending in a Green Curry Night for over 70 people. Entertainment was provided by Danny Chivers (as part of the Verbal Remedies tour) and local acts as well as our very own Jim. The event was a huge success. It got in the local paper (twice) and raised over £200 for P&P.
