Join the Kingsnorth Mili-band Saturday 4 July

On 4 July, thousands of people from the UK will form a human chain around Kingsnorth power station in Kent, to say no to dirty coal

Come and join us and help send the message to Ed Miliband that dirty coal must stop.

By forming a human chain around Kingsnorth on 4 July we’ll be telling the Climate and Energy Minister Ed Milliband that until he agrees to stop all CO2 emissions from dirty coal fired plants like Kingsnorth from day one, the future of the planet and the people who live on it hangs in the balance.

Already, climate change is devastating the lives of poor people around the world. If Ed is serious about tackling global poverty and climate change, then dirty coal at Kingsnorth must not go ahead. Ed has a choice: either to be a hero or a hypocrite. He cannot expect his arguments for a fair and safe global deal at the crucial climate negotiations in Copenhagen to be taken seriously if he’s planning to build new dirty coal fired power stations at home. We are not going to stop until he makes the right choice.

People gathering on 4 July are representing a diverse range of communities and organisations, including Oxfam, Christian Aid, People & Planet, The Women’s Institute, the World Development Movement, National Union of Students, Woodcraft Folk, WeCan, RSPB and Greenpeace.

Come and join us and help send the message to Ed that dirty coal must stop. Now.

What’s the plan?

After we form a giant human band at the proposed site for Kingsnorth power station there’ll be a summer fete, complete with stalls, music, and plenty for the children. Indie singer-songwriter Sam Duckworth from Get Cape Wear Cape Fly confirmed he’ll be there: taking part in the rally, and afterwards performing an acoustic set. Internationally-renowned Ugandan musician Geoffrey Oryema has announced he’ll be performing too.

Where is it, and when does it start?

At Kingsnorth, Kent. Starting at 10:30 on 4 July, 2009.

How do I get there?

All the coaches are now fully booked

By train. Pick up a free shuttle bus to the site from outside Rochester train station in Kent between 09:30 and 11:00. Buses will be returning from 15:30 to 16:00.

By car. There is no parking for private cars but you can park in Rochester and get the shuttle bus. Arranging your own transport. If you have hired your own minbus, please arrive at Kingsnorth holding site no later than 11.30 (maps will be available on this site in June). What time will the day finish?

Early afternoon, with shuttle buses returning to Rochester Station at 15:00.

What should I bring?

Yourself, your family, and friends. Remember suncream if it’s a sunny day, and waterproofs if it’s raining. There’ll be some food available to buy on the day, but a few snacks and a good-sized bottle of water are a must.
