Green League 2009 Unveiled - How did your university rank and what are you going to do about it?
The Green League 2009 shows that most universities are improving but these changes aren't coming nearly fast enough to stop climate chaos.
How did your university score?
Once again the Green League is upon us and the results make for some very interesting reading. The good news is your campaigning has paid off and we have seen big improvements in some crucial areas. 15 universities have appointed full time environmental staff in the last year alone and the number of universities with ethical investment policies has more than doubled.
The bad news is that no university received top marks and lots of unis at the bottom are still dragging their feet. We need a HE sector where every university has a plan to cut their carbon and several staff members to implement it, otherwise we simply aren’t going to see the drastic cuts in emissions we need. This isn’t happening at the moment so clearly more student pressure is needed.
What you can do
Every university in the Green League has room for improvement so the important thing now is to use the buzz created by the league to get your university to become even greener for next year. As we realise that lots of you are broken up for the summer we have broken this down into 4 simple steps that one person can do without breaking a sweat.
Firstly, check to see where your uni has come in the Green League and look at the detailed score by clicking on your universities name. Make a note of all the zeros that your university gets as these are areas you can tell them to improve in.
Then download and edit one of these draft letters to the VC.

Adapt the draft letter according to how you scored and what the main demands of your campaign are.
Send it to your Vice Chancellor as an email or a letter and wait for a response. Do let us know how you get on!
Every single People & Planet group should send one of these letters out because its important to have as much pressure as possible on the Vice Chancellor to Go Green. So what are you waiting for?
If you have a bit more time or a few friends then you can always hold a Green League Award ceremony.
