Wear Fair

Making 'wear fair' T-shirts

The Wear Fair workshop introduces students to People & Planet’s brand new Fairtrade campaign focussing on cotton. The workshops use a range of communication techniques including film and Powerpoint, and is designed to be highly interactive with a large focus on facilitated discussion and debate.

While the initial workshop highlights the problems endemic in global garment supply chains and how we’re involved in them, the second helps those wanting to campaign for Fairtrade cotton to form a strong group and begin planning an event.

The initial Wear Fair workshop

  • Looks at the problems throughout global supply chains of our clothes which result in the exploitation of factory workers and cotton farmers
  • Describes the alternative supply chain that Fairtrade certification offers
  • Outlines the impact that schools and colleges can have on the lives of cotton producers through buying Fairtrade cotton uniforms and sports kits

Following this workshop we come back to talk to a smaller group of students who have expressed an interest in actually campaigning within the school or college.

The follow-up Wear Fair workshop

  • Helps students plan an event at their school or college to get others inspired about Fairtrade cotton
  • Enables students to run their own People & Planet group and campaign on Fairtrade cotton
  • Provides students with skills and resources needed to think critically, and campaign effectively

The Wear Fair workshops helps schools to fulfil post-16 citizenship learning objectives set out by QCA, and have also been used by a range of curriculum subjects including economics, geography, politics, PSHE and business studies. Contact us for more information or to arrange a workshop.

‘Fabulous morning – Thanks. I’ve not seen my students ask so many questions – they were motivated and comfortable. The only visitor to get applause before AND after!’ Jenny Griffiths, sixth form tutor at Bellerive High School and Sixth Form Centre
