People & Planet has driven forward a carbon reduction strategy for universities

Last year the Government passed into law a legally-binding Climate Change Act which set carbon reduction targets for the UK. Now they’re considering how universities and colleges can play their part in the UK’s transition to a low-carbon future.

The Higher Education Funding Council for England (Hefce), which funds universities, is currently consulting on its new carbon reduction strategy. It’s proposing ambitious targets for reducing emissions and also considering whether these should be linked to universities’ funding.

They have launched a consultation to find out what universities think. This is your opportunity to have a say in shaping how universities respond to the challenge of climate change.

How green should unis go? You decide. Simply fill in this 5-minute survey to have your say and make sure that Hefce sticks to its ambitious targets.

People & Planet has been at the forefront of pushing for a strong carbon reduction strategy for the last 6 years. We’ll be responding to the consultation later this month to ensure it’s as strong and effective as the science demands.
