Staff and students at Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College were wowed last night when the college's People and Planet Wear Fair group put on an amazing fashion show to raise awareness of Fairtrade.

Students modelled gorgeous garments kindly lent to People & Planet by Fairtrade designer Annie Greenabelle which went down extremely well with the audience members. Students drove the message home with a quiz about the supply chain and a short film they made by asking other students on campus what they knew about Fairtrade and what they would do to promote Fairtrade in their local community. The students involved in organising the event felt that the evening went well and were pleased to have learnt more about buying ethical clothes and produce
“Before I got involved in the Fashion show, I never really thought about the supply chain but I did some research on Fairtrade and I’ve realised how big it is and what great things it does for farmers”

Another highlight was the cultural clothing segment of the show where students modelled outfits from their families’ countries of origin. In addition to the lovely clothes, audience members were treated to an array of student uber-talent in the form of bollywood dancing, musical acts, a ‘Flight of the Conchords’ tribute act, poetry, lots of belly-dancing and a hilarious comedian.
So the night was a huge success but the team have one piece of advice for other People and Planet college groups putting on a fashion show: make sure that you get a good sound system and someone who can fix it if it goes wrong!
