Sibford Switch Off success

Pupils massively reduce their school's carbon footprint by raising awareness of energy efficiency.

As part of their Go Green campaign, the People & Planet group at Sibford School in Oxfordshire managed to reduce their energy consumption by a whopping 23% in a week.

Sibford school students challenge their school to Go Green

By setting up a team of ‘eco-spies’ to find out the worst climate criminals in the school and then embarking on a series of assemblies and other awareness-raising tactics they managed to get the whole school switched on to switching off! Switch-off weeks are a great way to reduce your school, college or university’s carbon footprint, so why not think about holding one during Go Green Week (8th - 12th Feb).

As well as their switch-off week, students at Sibford have been spreading word of the fight against climate change by showing their Go Green film to their partner school in Uganda, and raising over £250 to help with sustainability projects there.

Go Green Week Heart Small

The school’s energy cutting achievement show just how much is possible when students start doing it for themselves. The Go Green campaign is this year challenging everyone - from pupils and their teachers through to entire schools and colleges - to sign up to the 10:10 challenge. Your mission for 2010, should you choose to accept it, is to try and cut 10% of your carbon footprint in a year. Find out more and get your school signed up during Go Green Week 2010.

And to top it all off, they’ve won loads of Fairtrade goodies by being one of the first schools to complete their termly group feedback report. Well done Sibford School!
