P&P School and College Groups need YOU!
The end of January is fast approaching and those New Year’s resolutions were forgotten before those unwanted Christmas presents were returned to the shop. But there’s still time to be a better person in 2010 by becoming a Schools and Colleges Group Support Volunteer for People & Planet!
Support one of our amazing groups to campaign to get their school or college to cut its carbon footprint or to go Fairtrade. On February 11th 2010 we’re holding a training session for new GSVs from 11am-1pm at the P&P support office in Oxford. After that we’ll set you up with a school in your local area and you will support a group of students by visiting each week, facilitating meetings and helping students to plan their campaign activities.
Not only will you get that warm fuzzy feeling that only comes from knowing you’re training a new generation of activists to change the world, you will get some great skills for your CV too. Matt McMullen from the P&P Management Committee was a Group Support Volunteer last year and gained some fantastic experience:
“I have learnt a great deal and will take a lot away from the role. The mix of youth work and activism has meant I have gained skills in communication, campaign planning, time management, resource production and public speaking just to name a few. People & Planet are a great organisation and have provided fantastic support throughout my role and helped boost my CV!”
The skills you gain could give you that vital edge over other candidates when applying for jobs, especially in the charity or education sector. It will also be great experience if you’re planning to apply for a P&P internship next year. Find out more about being a Group Support Volunteer.
Training is being held at the People & Planet Support Office in Oxford on February 11th from 11am-1pm. Email or call Jo on 01865 245678 asap to sign up.
