People & Planet staff go green and get muddy!
People & Planet support office staff yesterday kicked off Go Green Week by launching an innovative food growing project as part of their 10:10 challenge.
On Sunday morning, a day of rest and relaxation for most, an intrepid team of People & Planet staff trecked down to the Oxford support office. Their mission? To transform the mess of brambles and weeds commonly known as ‘the bit around the back of the office’ into a beautiful and productive vegetable garden! The project was inspired by all the amazing food-growing projects being launched by P&P groups running the Going Greener campaign.
Not only was this a brilliant way to kick off Go Green Week, but by growing their own fruit and veg in the garden, staff hope to reduce their carbon ‘foodprints’ and help the office achieve its target of a 10% reduction in carbon emissions for the 10:10 campaign.
Check out the video of the day and be prepared to gasp in amazement as you see how much we managed to achieve in just a few hours. People & Planet’s Climate Change Campaigns Officer Louise Hazan said:
It’s so easy to grow your own food. All you need is a scrap of unloved land, enough tools (it’s easy to find people to borrow these from) and set a date when everyone can spare a few hours. We get loads done and we also had a bit of fun in the fresh air. I can safely say that it was probably the best day of my life so far” *
Go Green Week vegan cookies
To get in the spirit of Go Green Week, the office have also been happily munching on delicious Go Green Cookies (for a small donation of course!). As well as being green, naturally, and covered in hearts in time for Valentine’s day, the cookies are totally vegan. This means they’re healthy for the planet, if not for the staff!
Corporate Power intern Fiona Ranford said
Oh my goodness! These are the greatest cookies I’ve ever tasted! And so beautifully decorated! I donated £2 to People & Planet for every cookie I ate because they were so good!” *
Follow the office’s example and kick off your Go Green Week with some carbon-cutting fun!.
