POWER2010, the open campaign for democratic renewal, has entered the final few days of its public vote – where anyone can go online and vote for the changes they’d make to British democracy. Of the 29 ideas submitted by members of the public and then screened by a Deliberative Poll of a random selection of the population, only the top five will make the cut as a set of people’s proposals for democratic renewal.

People and Planet has joined over 70 other organisations in support of a real discussion on the shape of democracy. Make sure you have your say.

The result of this discussion will be a 5 point pledge, to form the basis of a campaign in every constituency in the run up to the general election. Local alliances of constituents will drive candidates to back this people’s pledge for democratic renewal. Until midnight on Monday the contents of that pledge are up to us, so cast your vote now – perhaps it’s time we began to disentangle the influence of money on our politics.

Whether you care about the protection of Human Rights, penal reform, multiculturalism or preventing catastrophic climate change the shape and distribution of political power affects us all. That’s why we must come together, from all walks of life to discuss and deepen our democracy.
