Over fifty dedicated students came along during half-term to this fantastic day of activities, workshops and speakers to encourage students to take action on environmental and humanitarian issues.
The day, which coincided with the end of People & Planet’s national Go Green Week, was organised by City & Islington Students. They were inspired by their experience of attending People & Planet events including our annual conference, Shared Planet, back in November:
“People and Planet have inspired many of our students to become sustainability champions in both the College and their community. They have joined People and Planet in a number of projects and events such as the Wave, Youth Question Time and Shared Planet conference. As a result of our work with People and Planet, students took the initiative to organise our very own event entitled “Our Planet, Your Choice: Sustainability and Volunteering Conference”
Steven Kern, Enrichment Officer
People & Planet were, of course, present to talk about our Go Green Colleges and Wear Fair campaigns and to run workshops on making mini-movies and spray-painting slogan t-shirts.
In the morning session, students worked together to create these amazing movies asking their college to cut its carbon emissions by signing up to the 10:10 campaign, using very compelling arguments!
Students in the afternoon session used fabric spray paints to make their own slogan t-shirts to raise awareness of ethical fashion ahead of Faitrade Fortnight which begins this week.
Other speakers and workshops included Rupert Murray, Director of The End of the Line, Organic Cookery, Global Animal Conservation and a student-run workshop on Ultimate Recycling.
