Go Green Week provided a great launchpad for University College London’s Going Greener campaign. The People & Planet society and student union worked together to bring a range of student societies together with their own take on sustainability.
A key part of helping our universities make the transition towards a low-carbon world is ensuring that everyone in the uni community is aware of climate change and involved in creating the solutions to it. By involving other societies, the UCL P&P group showcased the diversity of solutions out there.
Building Community
The Green Fair brought together students ranging from the Vegan Society who provided free veggie food through to faith societies who see sustainability as a pivotal part of their religious and moral duties. There were also innovative student-led sustainability projects on show including the MODO Fashion group who run a clothes recycling Swap Shop.
A key tip for getting your own Going Greener campaign up and running is to work with the existing projects and societies at your uni and involve them in achieving your vision of a transition university. This way you’ll avoid duplicating their great work, and reach a much wider audience within the university.
UCLU P&P and student union are signed up to the 10:10 campaign, which encourages everyone to cut their carbon footprint by 10% in 2010.
